The conference is planned to coincide with the National Entrepreneurship Week of NEN (National Entrepreneurship Network). The theme of the conference is `Ideas for India’.


The conference aims to expose participants to entrepreneurship opportunities in various domains of biotechnology like microbial and enzyme technology, agri-technology and food technology, with a view to encourage technopreneurs in this field.

Goa University – Junior Research Fellow

Applications are invited from the eligible candidates on plain paper for one post of JRF to work on the research project entitled ‘In-situ conservation of critically endangered monotypic tree (Pseudoglochidion) and a shrub species (Phyllanthus talbotii) of Western Ghats using conventional and biotechnological tools’ sponsored by DBT, New Delhi for a period of three years to carry out research at the Department of Botany, Goa University, Goa.

Eligibility: M.Sc. Botany/Plant Science/Plant Biotechnology or equivalent degree with minimum 55% marks.

DST Sponsored Short-term Training Course in Cell Culture Technology.


Applications on plain paper are invited for the short-term ‘Hands on Training Course on Use of Cell Culture Technology for Studying Apoptosis and Angiogenesis’ for college teachers and research scholars for a period of eight days from 24 to 31 January 2011.


The course is mainly practical oriented with invited lectures. Apoptosis assays focus on nuclear staining, DNA ladder, western blotting for expression of Bax, Bcl2 and CAD and FACS analysis.


Angiogenesis assays such as endothelial cell proliferation, tube formation, migration, microvessel density counting, immunohistochemistry, corneal micro pocket and shell-less CAM assays will be covered.


Eligibility: Teachers (UG/PG) with regular position and teaching Life Sciences or Biotechnology and Research Scholars enrolled for Ph.D. programme (Life Sciences) are eligible to apply.


Number of participants is limited to 20. Selection of candidates is based on review of applications by an expert committee. The objectives of the training programme are to provide insights to scientists in analyzing and organizing data related to biological complexity; to promote understanding of bioinformatics tools and software employed for the data analysis; and to strengthen strategies for integrating bioinformatics tools for data mining. It is aimed to deliver insight on different tools and techniques in bioinformatics related to microbiological research.


The programme is expected to improve the bioinformatics skill of participants and to make them familiar with the modern practices in computational biology, bio-statistics, database design, integration and management, and implication of bioinformatics in genomic, proteomic and metabolomic data analysis

Jawaharlal Nehru University BioInformatics National Certification examination

Objective



Jawaharlal Nehru University, on behalf of Department of Biotechnology  (DBT), Government of India, will conduct the BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) examination. The objective of this examination is
to identify bioinformatics professionals. This will help potential employers in recruitment of candidates having exceptionally good bioinformatics skills.

Eligibility


Graduates and above in any science, agriculture, veterinary, medicine, pharmacy, engineering and technology are eligible to appear for the examination. They need not have any formal training, diploma or certificate in bioinformatics. 

The online application can be filled from 13 December 2010 to 3 February 2011. Syllabus approved by National advisory committee is available online. It consists of five sections: Bioinformatics, Biology, Physical and Chemical Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, and IT.

Examination


The examination fee is Rs 600 for candidates from open category and Rs 450 for reserved category candidates (as per Government of India rule). The examination is scheduled on 26–27 February 2011.
